...then I guess a former porn star can too. Fox News reports:
Former Porn Star Jenna Jameson Confirms She's Pregnant
Former adult film star Jenna Jameson has confirmed that she's pregnant following months of buzz.
“Yes, I can confirm I’m pregnant. It’s still early, so I’m being cautious. I’m resting as much as possible," she tells Usmagazine.com, adding that she and boyfriend of two years, mixed martial arts fighter Tito Ortiz, "are still in a state of shock."
"I'm so happy!" she said.
Jameson, 34, previously told Us she discovered she was two months pregnant in November 2004 after being diagnosed with malignant melanoma. A day later, she miscarried due to the stress of cancer.
But the devout Catholic — who has tried in vitro — told Us, "It was all in God's plan."
Jameson — who split from adult film studio owner Jay Grdina in 2006 and from porn star Brad Armstrong in 2001— said she and Ortiz have no plans to wed.
"I think I'm gonna stay unmarried and just go for the babies!" she told Us. "I'm following in Angelina's footsteps!"
Remember that, faithful readers: this is a devout Catholic... who has tried in vitro fertilization! Who wants to stay unmarried! Who is a former porn star! Because it's all in God's plan! Hey, you go girl! And give Nancy "ardent, practicing Catholic" Pelosi a big wet sloppy kiss from us here at The Blue Boar, because we sure don't want to kiss that nasty, baby-killing hag!
Seriously, it is getting to the point where I cringe any time I see "devout" and "catholic" used together in any story about a celebrity. You just know the person in question will turn out to be a big-time advocate for embryonic stem cell research, or getting pregnant via artificial insemination, or abortion, or contraception, or "gay marrige" (which is neither), or WymmynPrysts, or any other of the usual pelvic issues.
I think it is only heretics and rebels -- propogandists for birth control, infanticide, and perversion -- who want to be known as "devout." As for me, "Catholic" will do just fine. "Beer swilling Catholic" will do even better.

I think the relevant GKC quote is this:
"No Catholic thinks he is a good Catholic; or he would by that thought become a bad Catholic."

Thank you, Dr. T! Excellent!
There also is another ILN quote, in which Chesterton is contrasting Shakespeare and Milton, where he says the Protestant makes his religion, but the Catholic is made by his religion. Do you know which one I'm talking about?
No; ergo appello ad ELECTRUM. (therefore I appeal to AMBER.) hm, hm, hm....
Ah, yes, here it is:
Nearly all Englishmen are either Shaksperians or Miltonians. I do not mean that they admire one more than the other; because everyone in his senses must admire both of them infinitely. I mean that each
represents something in the make-up of England; and that the two things are so far antagonistic that it is really impossible not to be secretly on one side or the other. The difference, in so far as it concerns the two men, can be expressed in all sorts of ways; but every way taken by itself is inadequate. Shakespeare represents the Catholic, Milton the Protestant. Shakespeare never went to a public school, nor (as far as anybody knows) to any school. Milton did go to a public school: he went to the school already prophetically illuminated with my own presence. Shakespeare never went to an English University; Milton did. Milton regarded the trick of rhyming with contempt; Shakespeare used it even in the most inappropriate moments. Milton had no humour; Shakespeare had very much too much: he never lets anything else entirely run away with him, but he lets his laughter run away with him; he is sometimes absolutely incomprehensible from the incoherence of his mere animal spirits. Milton was probably unkind to his wife; Shakespeare's wife was probably unkind to him. Milton started from the very first with a clear idea of making poetry. Shakespeare started with a very vague idea of somehow making money. Whenever Milton speaks of religion, it is Milton's religion: the religion that Milton has made. Whenever Shakespeare speaks of religion (which is 'oily seldom), it is of a religion that has made him. Lastly, Milton was mostly blind, and took great care of his manuscripts; while Shakespeare was often blind drunk and took no care of his.

To the rest of the audience, don't forget the Quotemeister if you are desperate for a GKC quote!
And let's ask St. Monica to take a hand (with tears, if need be!) and by her prayers bring back the apostates, heretics, and whiners to the True Faith and make them bold Doctors....

Since the term "devout Catholic" is all but devoid of any real meaning anymore thanks to the Herd of Independent Thinkers in the mainstream media, perhaps we would do well to give over the term entirely to ironic usage.
E.g., "John Doe, a devout Catholic, was convicted on nine charges of embezzlement in federal court yesterday."
Or, "Jane Doe, a devout Catholic, was caught on camera vandalizing a statue of the Virgin Mary last night."
*headthud*
I don't know what's worth-- the thousands of "Catholics did this!" myths, or the thousands of "hey, I totally ignore the beliefs that would make me Catholic, but I'm Catholic!" stories....
Hi there. This reminds of a time (about 10 yrs ago) when one of the columnists of the newspaper I was working for then tackled something about gay rights. He was gay, and accompanying his column was a photo of a crucifix with Jesus in a very "gay pose". In that column, he stated "I am a devout Catholic..." and proceeded to write something on being a practicing homosexual and being a "devout Catholic" as being compatible. Sigh. Talk about one declaring himself a devout Catholic.
